GENERAL ELECTION UPDATE
Filing Period for Write-In Candidates Begins
The period to file as a write-in candidate for the November 3, 2026, General Election begins Monday, September 7, 2026. Eligible persons seeking to run as a write-in candidate must file a Statement of Write-in Candidacy and other documentation by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
Candidates wishing to file as write-in candidates may visit the Voter Registration and Elections (VRE) Office located at 7000 65th Street, Suite A, Sacramento. The office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday excluding holidays. | Monday, October 5 | Voted ballots may be returned in any of the Ballot Drop Boxes located throughout the County |
| Monday, October 19 | Close of voter registration for this election. Voter registration forms must be postmarked by this date or delivered to the VRE Office at 7000 65th Street, Suite A, Sacramento 95823 by 5:00 p.m. Online voter registration must be completed before midnight on this date at www.registertovote.ca.gov |
| Tuesday, October 20 | Conditional Voter Registration (CVR) begins |
| Saturday, October 24 | 11 Day Vote Centers open |
| Tuesday, October 27 | Last day a Vote by Mail (VBM) ballot can be mailed to you. After this date, VBM ballots are only available at the VRE Office or a Vote Center |
| Saturday, October 31 | All Vote Centers open throughout the County |
| Tuesday, November 3 | Election Day |
