Update My Voter Registration
Important: Updating your address with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or the U.S. Postal Service does not automatically update your voter registration. To ensure you receive the correct ballot and election information, keep your voter registration up to date.
If you move, it’s best to update your voter registration at least 60 days before an election. If you update later than that, a ballot may still be mailed to the previous address on file, depending on when your update is processed.
Check Your Voter Registration Status
Before making changes, you may want to confirm your current registration details (name, address, party preference, and language preference).
Visit: My Voter Portal to check the status of your registration.
Three Ways to Update Your Voter Registration
California’s standard voter registration deadline is 15 days before Election Day.
All forms and applications are available in multiple languages.
Any voter can use the California Secretary of State’s Online Voter Registration System to register or update your:
- Residence address
- Mailing address
- Political party preference
- Name
- Signature
Visit: Online Voter Registration | California Secretary of State :: California Secretary of State
When registering to vote online, you have the option of using your signature on file with the DMV to "sign" the online registration. The Secretary of State retrieves your signature from the DMV and appends the signature to the voter's application. If you do not have a driver's license or identification, or if you do not provide your driver’s license/identification number, you must print, sign, and mail the application to our office to complete the registration process.
If you are already registered in Sacramento County, you may use the Voter Action Form to update or correct certain information without re-registering.
