STATEWIDE DIRECT PRIMARY ELECTION
Department of Voter Registration and Elections Hosts Workshops for Voters with Disabilities
As part of the Department of Voter Registration and Elections’ ongoing commitment to increase accessibility and participation of eligible voters with disabilities, two workshops will be held during the month of March where members of the disability community are invited to learn more about the new voting options and accessibility resources available under the Voter’s Choice Act.
Beginning with the June 2018 Primary Election, all registered voters will receive a ballot in the mail and Vote Centers will be offered in place of traditional polling places. To ensure Sacramento County residents are aware of the voting changes, the workshops will provide an opportunity for voters with disabilities to learn about the new web-based Accessible Vote by Mail System, and ballot drop-off information.
Additionally, a simulated Vote Center will be set up where attendees will get firsthand experience of the new Accessible Ballot Marking Device that allows voters to use a range of accessibility options such as tactile switches and sip and puff systems.
Workshops are scheduled as follows:
- Workshop 1: Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from 6-7 p.m.
South Natomas Library, Meeting Room
